Necklace Layering 101

 

Here at Awe, we’re all about a layered necklace look. Stacking multiple chains of different textures and symbolic meanings could not be more en vogue. So how do you achieve that perfect "I just threw this together" stack?

Start with an anchor piece. Our Goddess Coin Necklaces are the perfect place to start when building your look. It will not only serve as an inspiring reminder close to your heart, but also a great focal point (and conversation starter!). Our standard chains allow you to wear it as a 16 or 18 inch necklace (perfect lengths for a standalone pendant), but we recommend the XL 20 or 22 inch length when layering with other pendants and chains.

Next, add a textured chain like our Chunky Paperclip or Curb Chain. You want something that is a little heavy and thicker than your anchor piece; this will help keep your stack balanced and add dimension. Your textured chain should also be worn at a shorter length closer to your neckline so it doesn't overpower the other chains. Playing around with necklace lengths is something that is going to be unique for each person depending on their size, outfit and personal preferences, and most of our chains can be worn at multiple lengths via jump rings.

Lastly, add a delicate chain. If you want to add a pop of color to your look (spoiler: you do), our Enamel Bead Chains are the way to go. We believe the best stacks are built in odd numbers so if this isn't the last chain you're adding, make sure it's smaller than the previous layer and slightly larger than the last two pieces you'll be adding. You can adjust the necklace lengths of your chains to allow them to sit about a quarter of an inch apart.
